Richarde met the animal in the forest and built the convent that kept a live bear. A hole in the paving of the crypt at St Peter and St Pauls Church is believed to mark the spot that was indicated by the bear; a pre Romanesque stone statute of a bear guards the crypt.
Near by is Le Hohwald a secluded resort surrounded by splendid fir and beech woods, a paradise for the nature lover where fine walks can be enjoyed throughout the picturesque scenery.
